    In this era of information and communication technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging as a vast network of data sensors and machine-to machine communication. As per networking giant Cisco, “IoT is simply the point in time when more ‘things or objects’ were connected to the Internet than people.”
   Part of this IoT is grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems, which are finding increased popularity on a global scale. According to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, South East Asia and the Middle East are among the regions expected to have the fastest PV growth. As photovoltaic systems become more and more widespread, there is increased emphasis on the performance and reliability of these systems, which can be gauged by analyzing monitoring and operational performance data. There is a significant demand for such monitoring systems at a relatively low cost, particularly among homeowners and small scale businesses.
   This project is based on a scheme where a photovoltaic power system is connected to the local power grid. Our primary objective is to administer real-time statistics of power flow to consumers, providing precise data. This workflow permits informed and effective decision-making on the part of the consumer regarding power consumption. For convenience and further efficiency, we aim to create a mechanism for both automated and manual switching of devices over the Internet. Factors to be considered include cost, reliability, and to an extent, scalability. Our absolute goal is to establish a system that improves energy efficiency via optimal power usage.
